There are several kinds of prayers recorded in the scriptures, but we will be looking at seven kinds of prayers in the next few days:
- Prayer of Worship
- Prayer of Thanksgiving
- Prayer of Faith
- Prayer of Intercession
- Corporate Prayer
- Prayer of Consecration
- Prayer of the Holy Spirit
Prayer is a reverential communication with God. This is different from how you communicate with your friends or earthly parents. It is done reverentially, with a knowledge of who God is.
Hannah received her child from God, and was at the temple to offer sacrifices, and to present the Child to the Lord. She had cried to the Lord in the previous verse concerning a child and she the Lord answered her prayers, she made the prayers of worship as we can see in our opening verse.
The prayer of worship is one of the biggest types of prayers. When we worship the Lord, we focus on who God is. Worship is recognizing God’s power,, love, faithfulness, graciousness, holiness, righteousness and majesty.
This prayer can be as simple as, “Oh Lord my God, you’re so faithful ” or as huge as in Revelation 4:11, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they existed and were created.”
Worship can mean anything from singing praise songs, or it can mean simply doing what Hebrews 13:15 says, “Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He opened with this prayer of worship “Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be your name.“
To hallow God, is to declare His praise, His greatness, His awesomeness, His power and might. There are many who just start prayers by first making requests. It should not be so. When you pray, always start with the prayer of worship. Praise God!
PRAYER:
There is none holy as the LORD: For there is none beside thee: Neither is there any rock like our God. Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they existed and were created. Hallelujah!
