“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.”
Matthew 5:14 KJV
The word light was gotten from the Hebrew word phōs which means to shine or make manifest.
The whole essence of light is to make darkness dissipate. So the bible says light shines in darkness and darkness comprehends it not. John 1:5
Jesus was speaking and He said you are the light of the world. For there to be need for light it means there is darkness, and if Jesus calls you the light of the world it means the world needs you. It means the world is in darkness and until you shine, it will remain so.
There is something in you that the world needs. Oh praise God!
Secondly, Jesus calls you a city. That means you are different from the world. You are a unique city in this world shining with the glory of God and you cannot be hidden. Ish 9:2 says, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. You are not here by mistake, the circumstances around your birth might be, but you are not. You are here for a specific assignment which is to shine as lights. You are the solution of the world. Hallelujah.
So how do you shine? You shine by preaching the word of God. The psalmist said, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; It giveth understanding unto the simple.”
Psalm 119:130 KJV
Also in Psalm 118:105, The bible says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
The world we have today is a dying world but you must shine the light of God’s word. You shine by speaking the word of God. When you speak the word of God into the world, you lit it up and fill it with the life and glory of God. You don’t keep silent otherwise many will be consumed by the darkness of the world. God wants you to shine, manifest His virtues on the earth.
So don’t hold back, preach the word of God to you friends, relatives, colleagues, and to anyone you meet because their lives depends on it. You must be the light they need, else they fall into greater darkness.
“Your lives light up the world. For how can you hide a city that stands on a hilltop? So don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that your commendable works will shine as light upon them, and then they will give their praise to your Father in heaven.””
Matthew 5:14, 16 TPT
Hallelujah!
Confession:
I am the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. I shine in my world through the gospel of Christ daily. I am consumed with the zeal of the Lord to preach the gospel of Christ to everyone that comes across my way today in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen.
