To consecrate means to sanctify, to make holy. One example of when this prayer is made, is when we take the communion. We make a prayer of consecration over the bread and wine asking God to make it holy for the purpose of the communion.
As we saw in our opening verse, Jesus himself made this prayer. The prayer of Consecration is always made with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is simply acknowledging that God is the provider of what has been made available to us.
Jesus also made this prayer for His disciples in John 17:17 when He prayed the father to sanctify them with the truth of His word. What he meant was that through the word of God, they would be separated from the world. They will be made holy and useable for the advancement of the kingdom.
You too can daily sanctify yourself, your children, and your entire family. You can do this by studying and declaring the word of God over your life when you wake up, go out and before you go to bed. Speak words over your life, declare you have the righteousness of God and have been brought into fellowship with Him through the blood of Jesus Christ. As you do this, you are consecrating yourself. Hallelujah!

I’m consecrated for holy use. Christ is my righteousness, He is my riddance from uncleanliness; my purifier. I am not of this world, I am separated and distinguished for holy use, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
