It is amazing to note that Jesus asked Peter this question three times. I believe Jesus was giving Peter another opportunity to reaffirm his love, haven denied Him three times. Jesus sure knows how to heal our broken hearts.
Peter had gone back to fishing with the other disciples after the death and burial of our Lord Jesus Christ. He must have been battling within himself over the event of Him denying the master three times even after he boasted that he will never leave Him.
There is always an inexhaustible measures of second chances available to every believer in Christ Jesus. Praise God!
Maybe you used to be fervent in the Lord and at some point missed it, and as a result, you have decided to forsake the things of God and just go back to living your life. You no longer feel qualified because, you have failed God by your actions.
Maybe you have never confessed Jesus as Lord: you now have the perception that your sins are unforgivable. As a result , you have resorted to just continue in sin as you don’t think you are redeemable.
Jesus shows us the heart of the Father in this story. He came to them even when they wandered away from His work. He called them “Children” and showed interest in their business even though they left His at the time.
God is still interested in you. You are His child and He loves you dearly.
Stop fighting yourself, don’t be drowned in the river of guilt, get up, run out of the river of self pity and run to the voice of Jesus calling your name.
Jesus never asked Peter to explain why he denied him, He only gave him to opportunity to wake up and bounce back.
He said to Him, if you love me, that’s all that matters. Get back to the assignment because you were never rejected. Glory to God.
Keep loving the Lord and let Him take care of your flaws.
CONFESSION:
Thank you dear Lord Jesus for loving me unconditionally and for never leaving me. I declare that I am committed to you, and to your plans for my life. Hallelujah!
