Service to God is beyond words, as It is more in deeds than in words. There are many who say they serve God but do so on their own terms. They tell you going to church, is not necessary, as they can serve God in their homes. Giving to God through tithes and offerings is only done at their convenience as it is not necessary.
Some go as far as saying praying, and studying the word of God is not necessary because, they see their unbelieving friends, live without doing all these and still prosper. Little do they know that God is a rewarder of our works towards his purpose for our lives, and that the unpleasant end of the unbeliever, is closer than they know.
To serve is the Greek word diakoneō which means to be an attendant. One who waits and acts as required. This person does not do as He pleases rather, He pleases the one He attends to. He is also a minister, in line with the office of a deacon.
It is important to note that the one who serves, either serves a higher authority, or serves a lower authority according to the dictates of the higher authority. Jesus speaking in our opening text said, “ If any man serves me, let him follow me;” Let him align with me, and be on same road, or on same page with me. You cannot serve God and be on your on page. It must align with His.
God wants us to gather as believers, He wants us to give to the church, He wants us to evangelize, to help the poor, and to help the brethren. As children of God, we have been called to serve God. We serve God according to His word. We do what He says, and according to how He wants it done. Psalm 128:2
“You will definitely enjoy what you’ve worked hard for — you’ll be happy; and things will go well for you.” (The Good News Translation)
The one who at any slightest provocation, makes decisions that will not align to the purpose of God, and stops Church, walks in rebellion and is yet to understand what service unto God, really means.
We serve by obeying spiritual authorities, helping in our local church and supporting the brethren, especially those that are in need. Romans 2:6 NIV, says,”God will repay each person according to what they have done.”
Serve God with the knowing that, He will honour you for your labour of love towards Him.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, I receive your grace to serve you with my spirit; in truth and with a perfect heart in Jesus mighty Name, Amen.
